One reason to have a blanket license could be to protect you, i.e. 
the member of the mailing list. So many people are in the habit of 
using disclaimers like : "This message is intended for the recipient 
etc. etc. ad nauseum...." that one wonders if one should read that 
email at all. But of course, once you read an email, you cannot unread it.

So what's the way out:

Simple. When a user registers on the mailing list, he agrees that all 
of his emails to the list are available under the blanket license 
chosen by the list administrators and that this license supercedes 
all other conditions that a poster may add on to his emails to the list.
